Six Again for WMDCC

28th October 2018
For the second week in a row, 6 of our Saturday sides took home a win, with 1st Grade and D2s the teams to miss out. 3rd and 4th Grade rocketed to the top of the ladder after picking up comprehensive wins against Hamilton-Wickham, and 2nd Grade got their first win of the season with a comfortable win over Hamwicks. 5ths, C5s and D1s all got wins to continue their winning starts to the year.

For the second week in a row, 6 of our Saturday sides took home a win, with 1st Grade and D2s the teams to miss out. 3rd and 4th Grade rocketed to the top of the ladder after picking up comprehensive wins against Hamwicks, and 2nd Grade got their first win of the season with a comfortable win over Hamwicks. 5ths, C5s and D1s all got wins to continue their winning starts to the year.

In 1st Grade, the boys struggled to set a competitive total, with Asher Robins (32) the only batsman to pass 30 in their innings of 115. With the ball, Jonty Durrheim (3/21) was electric, and was well backed by the rest of the attack. Hamish MacQueen was the matchwinner in 2nd Grade, scoring 50 to guide our total to 194, before taking 4/28 to help bowl Hamwicks out for 144 in reply.

3rd Grade made short work of their match at Hawkins Oval, bowling Hamwicks out for 76 and chasing it down in 16 overs. Satnam Singh (4/22) and Matt Penglaze (4/11) did the damage with the ball, Josh Payne (36) top scored in the chase for another bonus point win.

4th Grade also bowled first, restricting Hamwicks to 9/98 from their 40 overs. Steve Christie took another 4 wickets to further extend his lead on the all-time WMDCC tally (now at 1107 wickets). In a family affair, the 3 Redpaths combined for the first time at WMDCC, with Robert (2/12), Michael (28) and Daniel (24) all having an impact.

5th Grade grinded their way to 125, with first gamer Sam Carless (39) top scoring and skipper Simon Thibault (36) ably supporting him. That turned out to be enough, with the strong bowling attack of Matthew Smith (3/15) and Harry Compton (3/28) cleaning up to keep Merewether to 80.

C5s chased down a decent total of 173 in their win over South Wallsend. Uzair Khan (53) and Umesh Malik (40) were the best with the bat.

D1s played out the match of the round, chasing down 163 with just 1 wicket in hand against Gateshead. Anthony Fernandez was the hero with a boundary to win it on the third last ball of the innings. Chad Cook had a big game with 56 and 3/16, while Skipper Matthew Quinn picked up 3/8.

D2s finally got on to the field for the first time after last week’s win by forfeit. Unfortunately The Gardens proved too strong for our guys, scoring 147 in reply to 5/189.
