Tahs go down in 2nd Grade Grand Final
26th November 2019
Congratulations to Merewether District Cricket Club for taking out the Royce McCormack Cup on Sunday.
Winning the toss and batting first, our top order didn't fire, with Josh Brackenbury (44 off 34 balls) the only one to reach double figures. The dismissal of Bracks left us reeling at 5/58 in the 10th over. From there, Josh Payne (39* off 85) and James Foster (17 off 50) put together a good partnership to attempt to get us to a defendable total. In the end, we were bowled out for 140 in the 38 over.
With a small total on the board, everything had to go right in our bowling innings. Unfortunately a dropped catch and a bail miraculously staying on saw both Merewether openers get a life within the first 2 overs. Merewether batted well from there for a 56 run opening stand as they got on top of our pace attack.
A change up to spin saw some success, with Nathan Robins (1/19 off 8 overs) and Sean Lynch (1/5 off 2 overs) picking up wickets, but it was a case of too little, too late as Merewether got there in the 29 over 2 down.
Man of the match was Merewether's Dan Andrews who took 4/31 and made 32*. Liam Bench (3/34) was their other standout.
The boys will look to bounce back in the 2 day competition against University this coming Saturday.
