After the rain finally held off for long enough to get a game in on Saturday, 7 of our 8 Saturday sides managed to get a full game in, with 6 of them getting wins to start their season. 1st Grade didn't get to complete their fixture against Cardiff, with lightning ending play early.

In the other grades, 2nds were outclassed by Cardiff, setting just 123 with the bat, which could have been worse without Michael Ying Sing's 45. The bowlers had a better day, taking 4 scalps as Cardiff's Richard Green scored 70* to get them home.

3rd and 4th Grade had dominant wins against Cardiff, both securing bonus points. In 3rds, the boys bowled Cardiff out for 48 and chased it down in under 12 overs. New recruits Singh Satnam and Rahul Thakur got amoungst the wickets, and Sean Lynch cleaned up the tail with a dazzling spell of 4/1, before skipper Liam Wilson got them home quickly with 31*.

In 4ths, Michael Redpath scored a cracking 90 to set up a big score of 249 from our 40 overs. Olivier Koehn, Jono Burke and Dalvir Rana all added handy runs. In reply Cardiff were restricted to 106, with Olivier taking 3 wickets and skipper Steve Christie adding another 4 wickets to his incredible record.

Our guys got a win in their first taste of the new 5th Grade league. We set 178 from our 40 overs, with Todd Hearne (54), Vasilios Pappas (33) and Jim Pappas (33*) all getting scores. In reply, Toronto were restricted to 91. Matthew Smith did most of the damage with 3/5 off 5 overs. New players Jimmy Skelly and Binit Patel got 2 wickets each.

All 3 of our Newcastle City and Suburban Cricket Association sides got their seasons off to a winning start. Our new side in the C5 competition had a comfortable win over Beresfield to open their account. Well done to Asad Abbas and team!

Our returning D1 side led by Matthew Quinn had a close win, chasing down 133 with 3 wickets in hand against Valentine Eleebana. Ryan Kelso (3/4) and Trent Freund (2/7) did the damage with the ball, and Troy McGrath (48) led the way with the bat, with Trent doubling up with 29 runs for a big first game.

The D2s unfortunately opened their account with a win by forfeit against Hamilton-Wickham - not what the boys wanted after waiting 3 weeks to get a game.
