Waratah go down in first ever NDCA Women's Grand Final
28th November 2019
Unfortunately WMDCC lost it's second Grand Final in the space of 4 days as our Women lost to a strong Newcastle City side at Learmonth Park yesterday afternoon.
City batted first and set 4-114 off their 20, with our spin options proving the most effective. Emily Palmer (0-15 off 4 overs), skipper Fiona Mackenzie (2-22 off 4) and Emma Jayne Howe (1-5 off 4) all bowled well to keep City to a moderate total.
Our batting innings started well enough, with Skye Lovett hitting multiple boundaries in the first over, but a run of a wickets every over from over 4 to 10 saw us collapse to 7-34. Howe (20*) and Cassandra McLaren (10*) steadied the ship to push the innings to 7-75 after 20, but their unbeaten partnership of 41 came too late as we fell 39 runs short.
Well done to all the girls on a great first season. We hope to see them all return next year as they look to go one better.
